Today as I drove out of the Trader Joe’s parking lot I saw a (probably homeless) woman with a cardboard sign that said, “Domestic Violence Please Help”, or something like that. I stopped and asked her if she was alright. I don’t recall what she said exactly but I asked if I could help her. She seemed a bit troubled by whatever had happened but was mostly composed. I sensed guilt in her voice for requesting a favor but I told her if she needed help someone was going to have to help her and I was offering. She said that if she could get to the bus terminal then that would be a big help. So, I told her I would give her a ride and then I did. She was conversational and nice but in the silence she seemed to be holding back tears. She didn’t have bus fare so I gave her $2 in quarters and she seemed very thankful. That was about it other than her slamming the door somewhat hard and apologizing profusely. I think she was honest and I’m glad I could help her a little bit.
